Open Positions in the Parker Lab at UNC Biology - starting in or after January 2025

  • We’re searching for ~2 postdoctoral researchers to work on host-symbiont coevolution and symbiosis using insect systems. Researchers will work to establish their own lines of research and collaborate on existing projects, which include using forward and functional genetics to understand the molecular basis of aphid-bacterial interactions, understanding the hidden roles of heritable viruses in evolution across aphid species, and studying the dynamics of mobile genetic elements in symbiosis. Professional development, including grant writing, mentorship and teaching training, and career support are key to these positions. Postdocs will be supported by startup and awards from NIH and NSF and funding is available for ~5 years.

  • We’re searching for a permanent lab manager to support the research and training missions of the lab. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and problem-solving, interpersonal and organizational skills. Laboratory experience in microbiology, entomology, and/or molecular biology is a plus.

  • We’re recruiting graduate students through UNC Biology’s graduate program (https://bio.unc.edu/graduate/) with applications due this fall.
